Modern dance pioneer Lester Horton eschewed New York to remain in Los Angeles, where he created legendary dances and established his eponymous dance company. No wonder that when the L.A. dance community's Dance Resource Center developed peer-voted awards 20 years ago, it called them The Lester Horton Dance Awards after the L.A.-centric Horton. Marking that milestone is a late-afternoon event featuring performances by Arpana Dance Company, Antics Performance and Jagged, as well as awards presentations for performance, choreography and technical contributions. Many previous awardees are returning for the event, which includes a post-performance reception and a chance to chat with some of the best movers in L.A. dance.
