Last year, while Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark was still struggling with cast injuries and technical problems delaying its big splashy Broadway launch, some enterprising Off-Broadway writers and actors decided enough was enough. “In response to big wasteful Broadway money-sucking mega-musicals that emphasize spectacle over story,” they said, “we launched a return to clear, simple storytelling and character-driven theater …” The result, The Spidey Project: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility, became an acclaimed little show that could, showing up Julie Taymor, Bono and all those millions of dollars in clever style. A preview of the West Coast company of the show comes to NerdMelt Theater this weekend with An Evening With Spidey and Friends, in a show that also includes stand-up, illusionists and improv, all superhero-themed. Not to be missed, comics nerds! NerdMelt Theater at Meltdown Comics, 7522 Sunset Blvd., Hlwyd.; Sat., Feb. 25, 8 p.m.; $10. (323) 851-7223; nerdmeltla.com.
