The Northridge Thai restaurant Lum-Ka-Naad plans a second location that will be a tad easier to reach from Los Angeles. The new place will open toward the end of March or in April in a cluster of shops at 17644 Ventura Blvd. in Encino. Already, the site is plastered with “coming soon” signs.

“We are looking to welcome patrons from Los Angeles and the Studio City area who have been asking when we will be opening closer to town,” restaurant owner Alex Sonbalee says. The second Lum-Ka-Naad replaces a seafood restaurant and will be ready when the kitchen is rebuilt and Thai decorations are in place.

The extensive menu will include the same Northern and Southern Thai dishes served at the Northridge location, along with basic Thai favorites such as pad Thai and new dishes that Sonbalee will introduce to both restaurants. Like the Northridge Lum-Ka-Naad, it will have a noodle bar and, eventually, a full bar (alcohol, not noodles).

The restaurant will hold 130, with seating indoors and in a patio. If you want to imagine you're in steamy Thailand, sit outside when summer heat blasts the Valley and cool off with a Thai iced tea or, when the bar is ready, an icy Singha beer.
