Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite's dance works have been gobbled up by major national and international companies including Frankfurt Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Ballets Jazz de Montreal (where she was resident choreographer for three years) and Nederlands Dans Theater, where she is now associate choreographer. L.A. audiences were introduced to her work last year, when Cedar Lake Ballet showcased one of her ballets. But Pite's personal blending of raw movement with stellar technique is best appreciated in her own company, Kidd Pivot Frankfurt RM, where her movement flows through her dancers like river rapids. The calling card for this visit is her award-winning Lost Action, with a score from Pite's frequent collaborator Owen Belton.
