It was a big week in the world of L.A. food journalism, with changes at the LA Times and an announcement of a new high profile West Coast food position. Plus plenty to talk about in food policy, food television and more. These are the stories that caught our attention this week:

Russ Parsons, the longtime food editor at the LA Times, announced this week via Facebook that he'd be stepping down from the position to become a columnist for the paper. Taking over for Parsons is Amy Scattergood, the former food editor here at LA Weekly. Los Angeles magazine has a Q&A with Parsons that delves deeper into the changes. Congrats to all!

Grantland has some advice for Top Chef producers on how to avoid becoming irrelevant, and it includes making Roy Choi a permanent fixture on the show. 

VICE's Munchies has a good article on the problems with the President's proposed merging of the FDA and USDA. And speaking of Munchies, they're hiring a West Coast editor, which likely means even more L.A. content on the site. 

All those commodity prices going down may mean grocery prices fall as well. 

In openings and closings: Knuckle and Claw, a lobster roll spot from Roald Dahl's granddaughter, will open in Silver Lake on March 1 according to Eater. Union's Bruce Kalman will be opening a stall in Grand Central Market (via LA Times), The Little Easy takes over the Gorbals space downtown, serving New Orleans-style food and drinks, and Mexicano is now open in the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Mall.
