Most people with anxiety assume caffeinated beverages will make them extra tense. After all, caffeine is a stimulant, and patients with anxiety are already pretty high-strung. Wouldn’t coffee make this situation worse?

Interestingly, there are cases where coffee could improve an anxiety patient’s condition. According to neuroscientists, caffeine helps release the neurotransmitter dopamine. This “dopamine rush” is most responsible for the feelings of euphoria people get after drinking a cup of joe.

Since anxiety patients often have diminished dopamine levels, coffee could relieve panic-related symptoms. Indeed, many people with social anxiety disorder report great success using coffee before heading to a social setting.

Just keep in mind that this “anxiety hack” may not work for every patient. Everyone reacts to coffee differently, so you must listen to your body as you experiment with this drink. Also, please remember that “less is more” with drinks like coffee. Although coffee seems to have many health benefits, there can be too much of a good thing!

Ingredients

  • ¾ oz gin
  • ½ oz Campari
  • ⅓ oz sweet vermouth
  • ¾ oz coffee liqueur
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil
  • Orange peel

Directions

  • Pour gin, Campari, sweet vermouth, and coffee liqueur into a rocks glass
  • Add one large ice cube and stir until chilled
  • Garnish with Tribe CBD oil and an orange peel

It’s easy to see why mixing caffeine with alcohol is popular with party-goers. Since caffeine is an “upper,” it helps drinkers stay more alert and focused in a fun atmosphere. However, mixing these ingredients poses many health risks everyone should be aware of.

Most significantly, people who drink caffeinated alcoholic beverages are more likely to engage in risky behaviors. Apparently, the caffeine gives drinkers the false sense that they’re “in control.” Researchers claim people who drink caffeine with alcohol are four times more likely to drive drunk than those who only drink alcohol.

Another serious side effect of mixing caffeine with alcohol is dehydration. Both alcohol and caffeine are natural diuretics, which means they’ll make you pee. As your body rapidly flushes out fluids, there’s a greater risk of severe headaches and nausea.

So, if you’re planning to drink cocktails with caffeine and alcohol, please try to enjoy them in moderation. Also, you should only drink these beverages when you’re at home and have plenty of downtime.
