Penthouse went digital* earlier this year, and Playboy, which moved from Chicago to L.A. in 2012, is no longer serving up nude photos.

As if this isn't jarring enough for skin-mag aficionados, RedTube, one of the very porn sites that has been putting adult video and magazines out of business, is launching its own XXX magazine from right here in Los Angeles.

The free-video portal, often sited as a top-100 website for traffic, is part of MindGeek's multinational porn empire. MindGeek's tube sites have made it harder for adult-content producers to make money.

A spokesman tells us RedTube Magazine will be based in Los Angeles and London, and the plan is to have its first issue on newsstands by the holidays.

Its owners are calling it an “adults-only gentlemen's lifestyle magazine … with a photo-heavy emphasis on explicit sexual content,” according to a statement.

Publishers vow it will cover “the very best in art, culture, tech, vice, politics, media and celebrity while uncovering adult's most beautiful women,” the statement reads.

Strangely, RedTube the magazine also will launch a digital edition. This is such a mind twister, like a hall of mirrors.

“The new publication and its digital counterpart plan to build a bridge between the gentlemen's periodicals of the pre-internet heyday and the multiplatform 24/7 online news cycle,” the publication states.

RedTube Magazine's vice president of marketing, Alex Taylor, says it will announce the naming of its inaugural editor-in-chief in the weeks to come.

“RedTube Magazine will continue in the same vein of classic men's adult magazines so many of us grew up with, yet with a distinct focus toward the trends that drive us in contemporary America today,” Taylor said. “RedTube has been a leader in the adult industry for 10 years, which makes the brand an excellent authority on what men enjoy.”

Just remember, guys, a magazine is not a touchscreen.
