As the Los Angeles Zoo's 50th anniversary approaches, we got a look inside the habitats at the furry and fanged creatures who call the zoo home.
In terms of quality of life, a lot's changed at the zoo in the past 50 years. As recently as the '80s, many animals lived in cement-and-moat habitats with cages at the back. Now the living environments are temperature-controlled and lush. There's even a dietitian at the zoo to make sure the animals remain healthy. If it's been a while since you visited the zoo, it may be time for another look.
