The annual “Art of Motion Picture Costume Design” exhibit at downtown's Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Museum shines light behind the scenes of costume movie magic. It displays more than 100 costumes from 25 recent films, including creations from all five costume designers nominated for the upcoming 91st Academy Awards (to be handed out Feb. 24).

This year's nominated films are The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (Mary Zophres), Black Panther (Ruth Carter), The Favourite (Sandy Powell), Mary Poppins Returns (Sandy Powell) and Mary Queen of Scots (Alexandra Byrne).

The costumes are on display through April 12.
