If you're sitting at home this morning wondering what to cook for dinner and happen to have a whole chicken, a jar of mustard and a bottle of Port lying around, you might want to turn on the television sometime between 7 and 9 a.m. Wolfgang Puck will be cooking his recipe for pan-roasted chicken with whole-grain mustard and Port live on Good Morning America this morning, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the James Beard awards.

The Los Angeles-based chef (Spago, WP24, about 16 others) is in New York doing GMA before he heads over to Lincoln Center to co-host those very James Beard awards tonight at Avery Fisher Hall. Puck, whose co-hosts are Lidia Bastianich and Alton Brown, is not up for a Beard award, although he already has three. There are not very many Angelenos up for the award, which the LA Times pointed out recently. In fact, of the 36 chefs and restaurants named as finalists in the seven big categories this year, only one — Suzanne Goin — is from Los Angeles. More later on the awards, especially since The Weekly's Jonathan Gold is up for one too.
