There’s nothing like buckets and buckets of lobsters to lure dozens of people for a weekend long festival of food and fun. This past weekend, the Long Beach Original Lobster Festival celebrated its 23rd year of preparing live Maine lobsters in the world’s largest cooker for hundreds of hungry guests. Fleshing out the fairgrounds, there were live musical performances, photo ops, vendors galore, and more.

Upon paid general admission entry, dedicated lobster fans stepped right up to purchase their preferred lobster package (consisting of one or two 1.25 lb. lobsters with all the fixings: coleslaw, dinner roll, slice of watermelon, lemon wedges and butter dipping sauce) for $28 or $50.
Other attendees made their way past the main draw and shopped for their meals from among the dozen or so lobster-centric food vendors including varieties of lobster mac & cheese, grilled lobster served over garlic noodles, lobster bisques and vegan lobster bowls, as well as grilled squid and deep fried alligator bits and frog legs.

After getting their fill, some attendees took their children to the bounce houses, shopped for clothing or tchotchkes, hit one of the onsite bars, or kicked it in front of the music stage. It is safe to say that a good time was had by all except for the lobsters.
