Between unnerving water quality reports, speculation that plastic water bottles leak phthalates, and even suspicious recalls of the supposedly safer metal thermoses, there's one clear takeaway message from the bottled vs tap water controversy: Damned if you drink, damned if you don't.

Could a new bottle with a silly-looking top and an even sillier name be our salvation?

The curiously dubbed Bobble is a recycled, recyclable, and refillable drinking container free of both phthalates and BPAs (the endocrine disruptors commonly found in plastic water bottles and hard polycarbonate plastic, respectively). And its spout conveniently contains it's very own carbon filter to purify with every sip.

Replacing that filter will only set you back $7 every couple of months, far less than you'd burn through in the same time with a Fiji-a-day habit. Moreover, Bobble's makers say each filter's good for 40 gallons–the equivalent of 300 bottles that would otherwise be headed for the landfill.

Of course, all we know about BPA- and phthalate-free plastic is what it doesn't contain, not what it does. But until further notice, we're mightily enjoying Bobble's modern aesthetic: That curvy silhouette; that spout that seems to live in the future. Fittingly, you won't find it sold between the biodegradable kitchen towels and organic dog chow at Whole Foods but at A+R in Venice, alongside hipster-friendly wares like silver pins shaped like Percocets and Pantone chip folding chairs.

And you thought bottled water couldn't get any trendier…
