All beer is good beer; some is just better than others. That's the axiom passed down to Mark Jilg from his grandfather. That would be Mark Jilg of the booming voice, the overflowing opinions, and the steady hand steering Craftsman Brewing Company.

It was also the axiom that The Beer Chicks (a.k.a. Christina Perozzi and Hallie Beaune) took to heart when downtown bar impresario Cedd Moses tapped them to revamp the beer list for his 213 group of properties (among them Seven Grand, Cole's, The Varnish, Las Perlas, Tony's). Perozzi and Beaune started with Golden Gopher, transforming a nook near the front of the bar into the 8th Street Bottle Shop, a mini-liquor shop where downtown denizens can pop in for a handsomely curated selection of craft brews.

The Chicks only yesterday unpacked the 101 bottles of beer that will go on the Bottle Shop's wall. (Actually it may be more than 101. We don't count above 10 while sipping a Cismontane Citizen California Common.) The 8th Street Bottle Shop will officially open by August 13th, just in time for the LA Craft Beer Crawl.
