Elderly Man Fatally Struck in Deadly Crash near Valley Parkway
ESCONDIDO, CA (June 11, 2021) – Wednesday evening, an 89-year-old male driver died after a fatal crash on Interstate 15 in Escondido.
The accident happened around 6:05 p.m., on June 9. Officers arrived on northbound I-15 just south of Valley Parkway.
According to CHP, the 89-year-old San Diego man was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla northbound on Interstate 15. For reasons unknown, he rear-ended a 2021 Cadillac Escalade driven by a 58-year-old Bay Area man.
Paramedics discovered the Toyota driver unresponsive and transported him to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Cadillac, on the other hand, and his passenger, a 17-year-old girl, were unharmed in the collision.
According to preliminary findings, the elderly man may have had a medical emergency prior to the accident.
At this time, the California Highway Patrol is still investigating the fatal crash on Interstate 15.
