Young Boy Dies, 2 Children Hospitalized after Deadly Collision on Interstate 5

SANTA NELLA, CA (April 20, 2021) – Friday night, 8-year-old Angel Alvarez Gonzalez, of Quincy was killed in a fatal crash on I-5.

The accident happened at 8:00 p.m., on northbound Interstate 5. A 2003 Toyota Camry and a 2018 Toyota 4Runner were involved.

Authorities identified the Camry driver as 30-year-old Guillermina Gonzalez, of Quincy. She was heading south on the highway with three children when she suddenly lost control and struck the median.

Shortly after, the Camry veered into oncoming traffic and struck a northbound Toyota 4Runner, occupied by Luis Castillo (37) and Maria Ruiz (42).

Angel Gonzalez, who was sitting in the right rear of the vehicle, died in the scene. Crews also took the other two children to local hospitals in critical condition.

Angel’s two siblings, a 5-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, were not properly restrained in their car seats.

Guillermina Gonzalez sustained moderate injuries, while Castillo and Ruiz had minor injuries.

CHP says Gonzalez was traveling at 70 mph and the oncoming SUV was going 65 mph at the time of impact.

The loved ones of Angel Alvarez Gonzalez have started a GoFundMe page to help the Quincy family during this time.
