Eight people were injured when a camera boom fell at DJ Steve Aoki's free concert downtown over the weekend, a fire official said.

The injuries were all minor, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott told us. Three of the injured were hospitalized and the rest “declined transportation to the hospital,” he said.

“An individual jumped up and grabbed a camera boom and forced that boom to collapse,” Scott said. “Eight individuals in that crowd were struck and suffered minor lacerations and head and back trauma.”

The accident was reported Saturday at 10 p.m. at Sixth Street and Broadway, he said.

The concert was organized by the office of Mayor Eric Garcetti, a fan of the DJ's. The city shut down Broadway between Fourth and Sixth streets for the party. Although it was mostly free (there were $100 VIP tickets), attendees had to sign up for information on Garcetti's Volunteer Corps in order to receive tickets.

Garcetti also announced recently that a special summer event featuring Aoki is being organized to help promote the mayor's #SavetheDrop water-conservation campaign.

SoCal-bred Aoki was celebrating the release of his latest album, Neon Future II. He said he wanted to give back to the city that helped raise him. Aoki over the weekend reportedly canceled his European DJ dates because he needs surgery on his vocal cords.

Scott said the LAFD estimated Saturday night's crowd at 4,369.

A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said no arrests related to the party were logged by police.
