It's hard to argue how an orgasm could NOT be good for anyone's health, so it's easy to believe that there are true-blue proven health benefits to having multiple O-faces in a day.
Sex with yourself is a stellar way to maintain mental health and sanity for obvious reasons — you can have it as many times a day as you can find a semi-secluded area in which to do it. And the endorphin rush following that wave of ecstasy is enough to calm the nerves, soothe the soul, and flush your cheeks into a healthy post-auto-coital glow.
But did you know there are actual medical benefits to having an orgasm? Here are six good ones…as if you needed incentive to diddle yourself. (Or someone else.)
1. Orgasms Regulate Menstruation
Orgasms send blood to the organs in the pelvic area (duh) and deliver all the healthy nutrients and floaty bits right where they count. Women who orgasm once a week are more reportedly likely to have a regulated, every-28-day period than those who keep their legs clamped together and their hands to themselves.
2. Orgasms Make You Happy (also duh)
Orgasms can put you into a deep state of relaxation and even sedation, making it easier to sleep and chill out after a stressful day. And those sky-high endorphin levels flush cortisol out of the body, which is key for feeling good. Cortisol is that evil hormone that causes inflammation in the body and can even make your tummy bloat. (Ladies have enough of that shit to deal with.)
3. Orgasms Make you Healthier
Orgasms can spike dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) hormone levels in the body, resulting in all kinds of positive health benefits. DHEA is used to improve memory and brain function and one study (published 20+ years ago, but I'll roll with it) found it can even lower the risk of death from cardiovascular disease. Plus your skin will glow. (Not in the dark, though.)
4. Orgasms Make you Look Younger
According to a study by David Weeks, a clinical neuropsychologist at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, frequent orgasms can make you look 10 years younger. (His book, “Secrets of the Superyoung” delves deeper into those results.)
Assuming you're not having all those orgasms at night instead of getting that beauty sleep that also helps you look younger.
5. Orgasms Alleviate Pain
Orgasms release oxytocin, a peptide consisting of nine amino acids that act as a natural pain reliever. This analgesic effect means that having an orgasm can dissipate a headache, make menstrual cramps more bearable, and even soften the blow of child birth. (Some women have involuntary orgasms as they push…assuming they forwent the epidural.)
6. Orgasms Help You Detox
The sweeping flow of blood can elicit an overall lymphatic massage, which helps the body's natural detoxification process and settle tension in the muscles responsible for such important functions as digestion. This also can lead to a general pleasant nature, and who doesn't enjoy that?
