Major DUI Crash on 38th Avenue Injures At Least 10 People Including 6 Juveniles

OAKLAND, CA (September 13, 2021) – Six children sustained injuries Thursday night in an alleged DUI crash on 38th Avenue in Oakland.

The accident happened around 8:30 p.m., at the intersection of 38th Avenue and International Boulevard.

According to CHP, nine people were in a minivan traveling down 38th Avenue when a driver speeding down International Blvd in a Pontiac G6 ran a red light, crashing into the van.

The Pontiac G6 driver then collided with an occupied parked car before coming to a stop.

As a result of the impact, two children, ages 9 and 2, were ejected from the minivan. Responding medics transported them to the hospital, where they were listed in critical condition.

Meanwhile, eight others were injured in the crash. However, officials are withholding the victims’ names and current conditions at this time.

Officials added that the Pontiac driver attempted to flee the scene after the crash, but nearby resident were able to stop him. CHP eventually arrested the suspect on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.
