Since Demi Moore's iconic 1991 Vanity Fair cover celebs have been taking advantage of the fact that Photoshop and airbrushing can make their pregnant bodies appear less deformed and baby-ravaged in publicity photos.

This is to — presumably — show us plebeians how in control and physically un-affected they are by their expanding wombs, yet another reason why they're better than regular people.

But take a look at Moore's photograph and notice the genuinely fit, beautiful pregnant woman she is, captured in all its Bruce Willis-filled glory by infamous photog Annie Leibovitz. Her thighs and ass are visibly hefty, breasts are full and floppy, and her giant baby bump is held up by an arm that looks, well, just like mine.

But as the years have passed and this cover-shoot concept has been nabbed by the likes of Britney Spears, Christina (she might have still been X-tina at the time) Aguilera, supermodel Miranda Kerr, and even that girl from “Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” essentially cheapening what once was a glorious tribute by turning it into a prime opportunity to sell a lot of magazines (and nab millions of webpage views).

And the latest celeb to have taken the initiative to undress and edit herself is everyone's favorite word-vomiter Jessica Simpson, posing on the cover of Elle's most recent (April) issue.

But this time they've gone too far. Not only is Ms. Simpson's back-meat missing, but also the massive outie bellybutton that, in many women, pops out after the second trimester. Jessica Simpson's so hugely pregnant at this point that it's hard to believe her bellybutton is the gently shaded crater featured in her Elle cover.

So while you enjoy the following series of our favorite pregnant celebrities sans clothes, judge and admire at will — just try not to hate yourself afterward.
