Summer is approaching, and we need to welcome it with enthusiasm! After all, it’s LA — and the warmth of the sun here is unlike any other! If you wish to celebrate the beginning of summer, here are 4 May events in Los Angeles that are guaranteed to give you an awesome time!

5 May Events in Los Angeles to Jumpstart the Summer

1. “Beach” please!

It’s difficult to not associate the summer season with the beach. Therefore, if you want to welcome summer, you can “seas” the days. There are May events in Los Angeles that take place by the beach. Here are a few of them:

  • Arts and Crafts festival

Fiesta Hermosa will showcase hundreds of vendors’ arts and crafts at Hermosa Beach from May 27 to May 29, 2023. There will also be live music (with an amazing lineup!) as well as a carnival, a food fair, and lots of wine and beer!

  • Camping, or glamping

If you want to set up a campfire by the beach — along with your tent or RV — you can go to some of the Angelenos’ favorite beaches to go camping in:

Depending on which beach you’ll visit (whether it’s listed above or not), their local government will most likely post guidelines on their websites. If not, you can call them on the telephone to inquire about the things you can bring and activities you can do.

Do also find out which items are prohibited to bring at the beach you’ll be camping at. There may also be reservations that you need to start booking as early as now. Some of the beaches might also have Memorial Day ceremonies that will commence throughout the day (or at a certain time).

2. Street parades

If you wish to “celebrate, remember, and respect” veterans on Memorial Day, you can watch Fiesta Days parades in various places at La Cañada Flintridge on May 27 to May 29.

Topanga Days Country Fair is also set to occur throughout Memorial Day. There will also be parades, good music, and numerous vendors with beautiful finds to sell.

3. I Love RnB Music Festival: A festival that’s incredible!

RnB-loving 90s kids: This is not a drill! Ja Rule and Ashanti are back to get you grooving to their music (this 27th of May)! The I Love RnB Music Festival will be held in Queen Mary, Long Beach. The event will also feature other talented artists whose music a lot of us probably jammed to — such as Keyshia Cole, Bobby V (aka Bobby Valentino), Chingy, Lil Flip, and many more.

4. Scottish Fest: Celtic traditions meet the Wild West.

On May 27 to May 28, according to the site, “Everyone Is Scottish at Scottish Fest!” Because the event is as Scottish as it can be — they’ll have bagpipes, highland dancing, and drums will be blaring! The Scottish Fest is a 2-day event that aims to celebrate Scottish, Celtic, and American genealogies.

5. Lobsterfest: How many lobsters can you digest?

Here’s one of the most exciting May events in Los Angeles: This Saturday (May 20), you can indulge in unlimited lobsters with “pools of melted golden butter on the side.” While you do that, you can listen to the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s music that Tustin Lobsterfest 2023 hosts will be featuring. However, if you’re not a big lobster fan, you can also grab a bite (or two…or more!) of their pulled pork, salads, and the desserts they’ll also be serving. Dig in!
