So Carmageddon didn't attract the world-ending traffic jam that we feared it would. But the historic weekend closure of the 405 freeway did produce some interesting performance art, including a planking man and a woman who drove on a stretch of closed freeway and captured it on video. So far, however, …

… the emergence of this photo takes the cake.

A trio of friends decided to have early morning “brunch” on a closed section of the 405 below the summit of the Sepulveda Pass. It happened shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday.

Lucky for them the pretend meal was fast: The freeway was reopened nearly a day early, starting after 11:30 a.m.

The threesome includes Hollywood sound and music “guy” Barry Neely, 31, and a married couple we'll just call Matt and Amanda. Last month, Neely tells us, they explored a closed section of the Exposition light rail line in the Westside.

This time they prepared by doling out assignments: The guys would haul the table out to the freeway, Amanda would bring the place settings, and shooter Jesse Glucksman would snap away.

Neely says the whole thing took less than 90 seconds.

A construction worker came by to warn them that the California Highway Patrol would have their hides if they were caught. But then he asked if the three had any extra eggs Benedict.

“We knew we might get a slap on the wrist,” Neely said, “but we just wanted to have a little fun.”
