In the spring of 1977, an English-language version of the French magazine Métal Hurlant launched in the United States, and teen boys' lives were never the same.
In celebration of 40 years of Heavy Metal, Copro Gallery in Santa Monica is exhibiting a massive collection of the magazine's dark, sexy, sci-fi–tinged cover art. The group exhibition features work by more than 80 artists — European greats Moebius and Milo Manara and American visionaries Richard Corben and the late genius Jeffrey Catherine Jones included — as well as cels from the 1981 animated film.
The show opens on July 15 with live body painting, memorabilia and more.
