For those who see brunch as an extension of weekend festivities, there is the bottomless mimosa, a drink that is kept refilled until you either call it quits or brunch hours end. It's typically made of equal parts sparkling wine (more often Champagne) and chilled orange juice (preferably fresh-squeezed), but there are restaurants who pour in other types of juice in lieu: Pomegranate, strawberry, and grapefruit, to name a few.

The origin of the cocktail is not entirely concrete, but historians point to two possibilities. Under its identity as a mimosa, it was born in 1925 at the Ritz Hotel in Paris. Four years before that, it was known as the Buck's Fizz, named after the Buck's Club in London. In those days, it wasn't uncommon to find it splashed with a touch of grenadine. For reasons unknown, the French version became the quintessential Sunday brunch beverage.

Whether you call it a mimosa (which we opt for as to not break tradition) or a Buck's Fizz, here are a couple of places around Los Angeles to enjoy flutes of the cocktail at your weekend leisure (in no particular rank):

4. The Roof on Wilshire:

At $22 per order, mimosas at The Roof on Wilshire are the more expensive of all the options, but then again there is the sweeping view of the Hollywood Hills. During its busier hours though, the view can just as well be the crowd before you, hanging poolside. 6317 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Grove; (323) 852-6002.

3. The Misfit:

At the cheaper price within the longest time frame, the endless mimosa with fresh juice (though not made in-house) at $12 can run until 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The Misfit keeps brunch entrees familiar with a wild mushroom omelet, chilaquiles and a housemade granola sided with Greek yogurt. 225 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica; (310) 656-9800.

2. Onyx Lounge:

Onyx Lounge keeps true to its name with dark walls and ceilings that keep the space somewhat dim on even the brightest day — not an easy feat in L.A — which makes it a comfort on those days that bled from long nights. Unlimited mimosas are $15 with the purchase of a brunch entree; available on Sundays only.118 West 5th St., dwntn; (213) 891-1144.

1. Luna Park:

Just a few blocks away from Museum Row on Miracle Mile, Luna Park maximizes its space, seating its steady crowd at tables and banquettes within close proximity. It's one of the few places in town that serves bottomless mimosas (and sangrias) throughout the week. Both mimosas with freshly squeezed orange juice and sangrias are bottomless at $15 each during the weekend. During the week, it's 50¢ less. 672 S. La Brea Ave., Hancock Park; (323) 934-2110.

Honorable Mention. Overland Cafe:

The breakfast basics are covered whether you're an omnivore or a vegetarian. Your benedict can come with sliced tomatoes, grilled ham or a veggie sausage patty. Add $6.99 to your meal for all-you-can-drink Champagne; the freshly-squeezed orange juice comes at a separate charge and in different sizes from $2.99 for a small to a liter at $10.
