Isai RochaA baseline COVID-19 test administered to all returning L.A. Unified School District (LAUSD) students yielded 3,255 positive cases.
All 451,026 students who chose to return to in-person classes were tested beforehand, amounting to a 0.8% overall positivity rate.

LAUSD students were given the option of returning to campuses or continuing online learning. Those students who chose distance learning did not have to take the baseline test.
From this point forward, students will have to take weekly COVID-19 tests.
“Los Angeles Unified is doing our part to reduce the spread of COVID,” LAUSD said through a tweet. “Baseline testing has helped families and employees stay safe at home and get the care they need as we start the new school year.”
Of all LAUSD employees who took the baseline test, 399 resulted in positive cases for a 0.6% positivity rate.
For all teachers and staff in the district, LAUSD has set a mandate requiring proof of full vaccination by October 15.
