Success is a long journey that takes fortitude and perseverance, and many people abandon the journey halfway down the road due to frustrations. According to Barry, success begins and ends with your mindset; it is never about luck. With a success mindset, you can propel yourself through the tumultuous journey to achieve your goal.

Most people believe that successful people have had it easy, to which Barry says that is wishful thinking. “No one hands you success on a silver platter,” he/she says. However, Barry points out that all successful people have a few traits in common that others can emulate. These include:

  • Time-management skills

“It all starts with how well you manage your time,” says Barry. He notes that successful people work on a priority basis. This is what enables them to get so much done within the same time as everyone else. “Successful people know how to say NO when it is something that will not fit within their hours. They also know how to delegate and focus on only the essential tasks, whereas most people take up everything on their own. Planning and tuning out distractions is also part of excellent time management that successful people share,” explains Barry.

  • Resilience

Success is a long and winding journey; therefore, you need to be prepared for setbacks and dead ends. Barry says that successful people have high levels of resilience which helps them navigate rough waters. He notes, “First, successful people are not afraid to fail, and when they do, they learn from these experiences. Successful people also remain steadfast in their goals even in the face of professional struggles. Their resilience helps them keep moving forward, and their eyes are trained on the prize even when life keeps throwing curveballs.”

  • Investment in self-development

“Investing in yourself and your skills is extremely important in the journey to success,” says Barry. “Successful people understand the importance of building on their knowledge continuously. This means reading, training, upskilling, and reskilling as necessary.” Barry notes that investing time and money to better yourself is a sure way to set yourself up for success.

“Success is not for the chosen few; everyone can become successful. All you need is hard work and the right mindset,” concludes Barry.
