Major Multi-Vehicle Crash on 48th Avenue Cause 3 Deaths and Injuries 1 Child

YAKIMA, WA (September 3, 2021) On Tuesday, three people lost their life and a child sustained injuries after a multi-vehicle crash on 48th Avenue in Yakima.

Yakima Police responded to the crash at 11:18 p.m. at the intersection of 48th Avenue and West Nob Hill Blvd.

According to reports, a 1994 Ford Escort driven by a 20-year-old Yakima man was speeding north on 48th when it ran a red light and collided with an eastbound 2007 Mitsubishi Galant.

A 23-year-old man in the Escort and a 19-year-old man in the Mitsubishi both died as a result of the collision’s impact.

Meanwhile, medics rushed a 20-year-old female passenger in the Mitsubishi to the hospital, where unfortunately she was also declared dead.

Moreover, emergency crews took the 5-year-old girl and the Mitsubishi to local hospitals for the treatment of the injuries they sustained.

At this time, the Yakima Police will charge the Escort driver with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.

Further investigation is underway to determine the cause and factors leading up to the fatal collision.
