“Further information” led detectives to question the story, and soon the three were in cuffs and behind bars, the Gardena department said.
Suspects were identified as 36-year-old Jennifer Nichols and 23-year-old Alejandro Terrazas of Hawthorne, police said. The underage teen was not ID'd.
