A San Fernando doctor who prescribed oxycodone to patients who didn't need it, a practice that a judge said resulted in the deaths of two people who took the drug, was sentenced to 25 years behind bars this week, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles announced.

Prosecutors say Masoud Bamdad, a 56-year-old who lived in Granada Hills, wrote prescriptions for cash, doled them out to legal minors under the age of 21, and even gave one to an undercover federal agent whom he called a drug addict.

Bamdad even wrote the without having seen the patients at his office, the U.S. Attorney's Office contends.

The doctor was also fined $1 million and will have to forfeit his clinic to the government.
