25 Law Enforcement Recruits Hurt in Pedestrian Collision near Trumball Street

WHITTIER, CA (November 18, 2022) – Early Wednesday morning, 25 law-enforcement recruits were struck in a wrong-way accident on Mills Avenue.

The incident happened around 6:30 a.m., near Trumball Street on November 16th.

For reasons under investigation, 75 recruits were training when the 22-year-old driver of a wrong-way vehicle drove straight into them.

Investigators say 16 recruits suffered minor injuries, 4 were in moderate condition, and 5 were in critical state. Video footage from the scene shows the recruits running in formation as the driver was traveling directly towards them at a high rate of speed.

After striking multiple pedestrians, the vehicle came to rest after crashing into a traffic police officer. Medics treated the suspect with minor injuries before he was arrested and detained by police.
