The L.A. County Fair announced that it would forgo its 2021 summer event, as it did in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While there is uncertainty around the return of large-scale events in Los Angeles County, fair officials said they will at least attempt to put together a smaller event for its fair lovers.

A message posted to the L.A. County Fair home page read, “We are heartbroken that we cannot hold the LA County Fair as we all know and love it — It would be a public health and financial risk for us to do so. However, we do hope to have some celebration of the Fair this Fall. It may be a much smaller version, but it will be big in spirit.”

Those who had purchased season passes in 2020 had the option of carrying them over to 2021. They will now be refunded.

“The L.A. County Fair is our flagship event, the foundation on which we build our community engagement,” Fairplex Interim Chief Executive Walter M. Marquez said in a statement. “But we, in good conscience, could not move forward with planning our big, campus-wide fair this year, not knowing where the pandemic would be come summer.”

The Pomona Fairplex, where the county fair is typically held, has served as a mass vaccination site since January 19 and is also hosting a “Jurassic Quest” drive thru experience through the end of February.
