When compiling the annual list of restaurant openings and closings in the San Gabriel Valley, the sheer magnitude of the restaurant scene and apparent foolhardiness of trying to chronicle it becomes quickly apparent. But, thanks to David Chan's record-keeping, Tony Chen's Meanwhile, In The SGV updates at Eater LA and our own legwork, for the fourth year we've put together such a list.

Amid the usual slew of new hot pot and boba places, 2013 saw the arrival of a restaurant focusing on Hunan-style noodles, three more Burmese restaurants, Peruvian-Chinese cuisine, a duck bits parlor and a restroom themed-Taiwanese café.

Among the notable openings, the return of the inspired Taiwanese cuisine of BeBe Fusion was welcome, as was expansion of MonJa TaiKer to Rosemead. But, the standout was Chengdu Taste, which made our list of L.A.'s 10 Best New Restaurants. While not the first Chengdu-style restaurant in the SGV, nor the first to serve a Sichuan-style rabbit dish, Chengdu Taste does sublime versions of common dishes along with items you'll truly only find there.

Among the notable closures this year were Yu Garden and Michelle's Pancake, the phantom-like Monterey Park location of Chengdu-style Shufeng Garden, the collapse of the Liang's Kitchen empire and Fortune Dumpling, a one-time favorite in its 10053 Dumpling iteration.
