The IACP, which would be the International Association of Culinary Professionals and not the International Association of Chiefs of Police — which comes up first on a Google search, proving maybe that cops can SEO better than writers — yesterday announced the finalists for both the 2011 Cookbook Awards and the Bert Greene Awards for Food Journalism. Winners will be announced and recognized at the awards ceremony on June 2nd in Austin, Texas, as part of IACP's annual conference.

Jonathan Gold made the cut, as he does most years, for the journalism awards. Patrick Comiskey was also nominated for a piece written for Zester Daily. Local writers nominated in the cookbook category include Barbara Fairchild, for Bon Appetit Desserts: The Cookbook for All Things Sweet and Wonderful, and this writer, who co-authored Good to the Grain with former Spago pastry chef Kim Boyce. This year also marks the debut of a new award, the IACP Culinary Classics Award, to honor culinary works that have become true classics in the field. Think Julia Child and Harold McGee.
