Updated at the bottom with charges filed against the older teen. First posted at 4:27 p.m. Monday.

Two male students were arrested following a videotaped classroom brawl with a science teacher at Santa Monica High School on Friday. One of the two had a box cutter and marijuana on him the day of the fight, cops allege.

Despite reports claiming charges have been filed, a District Attorney's spokeswoman said that was not the case, at least not yet. Santa Monica police told us the same.

But cops were recommending that prosecutors throw the book at the two teen suspects:

For the 18-year-old seen on tape grappling with the teacher, who also happens to be the wrestling coach, cops are recommending he be hit with allegations of threatening a school official, battery against a school employee, possession of a weapon (a box cutter) on a school campus, and possession of marijuana on school grounds, according to Sgt. Jay Moroso of the Santa Monica Police Department.

Police declined to identify the teen even though he's an adult.

A 16-year-old boy was also arrested in connection with the case. Cops seek to have him charged with battery against a school employee, Moroso told the Weekly.

The fight between the teacher and student, reportedly triggered after the 18-year-old allegedly brought marijuana to class, set off headlines when video of the clash was uploaded to YouTube.

The duo was arrested Friday, police told us.

Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Superintendent Sandra Lyon originally criticized the teacher, calling his actions “deeply disturbing.”

However, after an outpouring of support for the man, she reversed course and apologized for her “pre-judgement of the teacher's conduct prior to an investigation.”

And yes, the district was investigating.

Police said the 18-year-old will probably appear in LAX Superior Court tomorrow morning. The 16-year-old probably wouldn't see the courtroom for 60 days, the Moroso said.

[Update at 4:08 p.m. Tuesday]: The Santa Monica City Attorney's office filed charges against the older teen, who was identified today by police as Blair Roderick Moore.

They include two counts of threatening to assault a school employee, one count of using violence against a school employee, one count of possessing marijuana on a school campus and one count of possessing a box cutter on a school campus, prosecuting attorney Melanie Skehar told us.

The two counts of threatening a school employee resulted from the fact that a second teacher was allegedly victimized in the fracas, she said.

Moore pleaded not guilty to all counts today.

The 16-year-old's case was turned over to the L.A. County District Attorney's office, who told us no charges were filed. He was cited by cops and released, but the county Department of Probation could impose its own sanctions on the teen because he's underage, said a D.A.'s official.

The teen was not on probation before the incident, he said. The student's name was not released because he's underage.
