Two Pronounced Dead after Wrong-Way Collision near Mathilda Avenue

SUNNYVALE, CA (May 1, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, two victims were killed in a wrong-way accident on State Route 237. Police responded to the scene around 4:00 a.m., near Mathilda Avenue on April 23rd. Per reports, the driver of a silver 2021 Honda Civic was heading east in the westbound lanes. As a result, the silver Civic collided head-on with a red 2017 Honda Civic. Medical personnel arrived and pronounced both drivers dead at the scene. Investigators say there were no passengers inside either vehicle. Emergency crews blocked the westbound lanes for several hours before it was fully reopened. The identity of the wrong-way driver was not yet released but he was described as a man in his mid 20s to early 30s. Also, the other driver was identified as a man in his 20s to 30s. Following preliminary duties, officers have not determined if alcohol or drugs played a factor. However, an active investigation is still currently underway.
