Two Hurt in Two-Vehicle Collision near University Avenue

SAN DIEGO, CA (February 4, 2022) – Two people sustained injuries following a wrong-way crash on State Route 163, Wednesday morning.

California Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 2:30 a.m., on a freeway in San Diego’s Hillcrest area.

Furthermore, authorities said a GMC Sierra pickup-truck entered southbound State Route 163 from University Avenue in the wrong direction. Eventually, it collided head-on with a Honda CR-V.

Authorities later learned that the Honda’s male driver suffered major injuries. Consequently, paramedics rushed the male victim to Scripps Mercy Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the truck’s female driver was not injured, but she appeared to be hyperventilating when speaking to authorities at the scene. Paramedics transported her to a local hospital to be evaluated for a possible DUI.
