3 Injured in Motorcycle Crash on Interstate 5 near Shields Avenue

FRESNO, CA (June 29, 2021) – Two people suffered major injuries Thursday afternoon following a motorcycle accident on Interstate 5.

The crash happened on Interstate 5 and Shields Avenue, just south of Los Banos around 5:00 p.m., on June 24.

According to the California Highway Patrol, an elderly man was driving his Subaru Forester northbound on the highway when he collided with two southbound motorcyclists.

The collision threw the riders, a man and a woman, onto the road. The Subaru caught fire, but the elderly male driver was able to flee the burning vehicle.

Paramedics airlifted the two motorcyclists with serious injuries to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. Meanwhile, the Subaru driver escaped with minor injuries.

At this time, the Fresno Police are determining the cause of the crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
