A 14-year-old would-be rapist was in juvenile hall this week after he allegedly tried to sexually assault a woman on a bicycle in Reseda, police allege.

The brazen attack happened near the Los Angeles River in Reseda on a clear night as the victim, 28, was riding her bike, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The boy, whose identity was being withheld because of his age, knocked the woman off her bike before hitting her, police allege.

Here's what the LAPD says happened:

The victim was knocked off her bicycle by the male who then attempted to sexually assault her. As the attacker began to hit the victim, she fought back and screamed for help. The suspect ran away and the victim called police with a detailed description of the attacker.

The attack was reported at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, the department said.

Responding officers quickly nabbed a teenager who fit the description of the suspect, and the victim identified him in the field as her attacker, cops said.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and locked up at Sylmar Juvenile Hall, police said. The woman had to undergo a medical examination, they said.

Anyone who might have witnessed the attack or anything else suspicious in the area was asked to call detectives at 818-756-4820.
