An 11-year-old boy was fatally stabbed over the holiday weekend, and his stepfather was suspected of doing it.

Neighbors heard arguing and then screams from the boy's mother, according to TV reports: The boy was taken to Children's Hospital in cardiac arrest and later died at that facility.

A 26-year-old man believed to be the boy's attacker was taken to County-USC Medical Center to be treated for wounds sustained in a struggle with the child, cops said.

He's believed to be the boy's stepfather.

He had not been booked in connection with the allegations here because he was still in the hospital, police said.
