Using celebrities as artistic inspiration is certainly nothing new — just ask anyone who ever tacked up an Andy Warhol poster in a dorm room. Yet, there is certainly no shortage of buzz surrounding Richard Phillips' exhibit at New York City's Gagosian Gallery (running through October 20) that features images of Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima and porn star/legit actress Sasha Grey.

But it was his depictions of love her or love-to-hate-her Lindsay Lohan that seem to have gotten the most press.

This is a little shocking, as Phillips certainly isn't the first artist to use the sometimes actress for inspiration. Here's a look at nine other artists who have used LiLo's image in their work, with or without her permission.

9. Lindsay in the Bible

Spanish-American contemporary artist Domingo Zapata may have denied rumors of any romantic trysts with Lohan, but he did publicly profess his love for her professional work. If nothing else, the two did collaborate for a photo shoot. What resulted was what Zapata entitled “Eat Me” and consisted of four Polaroids of Lohan with the words “An Apple . . . that I like . . . with a bite out of it. Adam and Eve changed mankind forever . . . started SIN . . . it was a plain simple apple hanging from a tree. Then the world changed for all of us.” A prominent British collector reportedly bought the images for over $100,000.

8. Lindsay in felt

Atlanta-based artist Simone Stanley creates one-of-a-kind artwork out of felt to match any likeness. An example specimen? La Lohan's mugshot (as well as Nick Nolte's, Paris Hlton's and Mike Tyson's). Purchase these images — or request your own creation — via Stanley's Etsy site.

7. Lindsay in fingernails

Way ahead of her time as far as the nail art craze is concerned, Lohan famously showed her own socio-political artwork on her fingernail during a 2010 probation violation hearing. It's only fitting that Spokane, Washington artists Cain and Todd Benson, who are no strangers to political commentary themselves (see their thoughts on WikiLeaks and on China versus Google) turned this image into a work of art.

But why stop with court proceedings? The Bensons also created this Warhol-style tribute to Lohan's mugshots.

5. Lindsay in a lesbian version of American Gothic

One pop culture image deserves another? Los Angeles artists Ben Tegel and Brian Romero created this American Gothic-inspired image of Lohan and then-partner Samantha Ronson for a “Girl on Girl night” event at the Viper Room in 2009.

“Lindsay and Sam are the all-American couple for the 21st century,” Tegel told E! Online's Mark Malkin at the time. “I call it American Sapphic.”

4. Lindsay in recycled wood

Portland, Oregon-based artist Ace Troy created a permanent reminder of Lohan's criminal escapades when he spray-painted her November 2007 mugshot onto recycled wood.

“Lindsay Lohan is secretly one of my favorite things,” says Troy, who showed the piece at a local art gallery before listing it on Etsy for $35. “I wanted to do a show actually of just Lohan pieces, but that's far off.”

3. Lindsay as a vampire

Illustrator and tattoo artist Matt Truiano of Valley Cottage, New York took a detour from his book covers for horror novels, novellas and short stories to create this vampy Lohan oil painting. But LiLo isn't the only starlet to inspire Truiano; he also has a couple blood-thirsty works called “The Real Hannah Montana.”

2. Lindsay in a movie poster

Polish graphic artist Piotr Wojtaszek replicated the feel of a classic movie poster — complete with text that reads like Lohan's Wikipedia page — for a series of works for a magazine contest that also included Joaquin Phoenix and Jackie Chan's likenesses.

1. Lindsay for iPhones

Berlin-based illustrator and graphic artist Carolina Matthes specializes in vector illustration (similar to what Matthew Inman does with The Oatmeal) and sells everything from iPhone cases to postcards to T-shirts on her website. Her pop art/monochrome print of Lohan is available as a greeting card or postcard.
