Is there anything not to like about $1 pizza? We're not talking about the pizza you'd get by the slice for a buck on the street in NYC, but an actual whole pizza with fancy meats and white anchovies and roma tomatoes and all that jazz — for less than the price of an hour of street parking.

This Sunday, South End is celebrating its first anniversary with $1 pies. The restaurant was called a “strip mall dining dream come true” on this here blog when it opened, and has a Mozza veteran helming its ovens.

The deal: On Sunday, Aug. 17, from 4:30-11 p.m., South End will offer $1 pies. Lest you think they'll be skimping on these pies, luring you in with a cheap Margherita and then offering everything else at the usual prices, think again. A bunch of pizzas are being offered, including the 905, topped with Heritage pork salsiccia, crushed Roma tomatoes, Kalamata olives, fresh mozzarella, red onion and marjoram, and the Gondola, topped with crushed Roma tomatoes, Fresno chilies, Italian white anchovies and marjoram. The pizzas usually cost between $13-17.

Reservations are not being accepted, and the $1 pizzas will be served on a first come first served basis. Seating is limited.
