Passenger Ejected in Deadly Collision near West Turner Road

SAN JOAQUIN, CA (August 24, 2021) – One person was killed early Sunday morning in a DUI accident on Interstate 5 in San Joaquin.

The crash occurred at 2:07 a.m., on northbound I-5, just north of West Turner Road.

According to the CHP, the driver of a Toyota was traveling at high speeds when they struck the back of a Lexus, causing the Lexus to collide with a guard rail in the median.

Due to the impact of the crash, the passenger was ejected onto the roadway.

Responding officers pronounced the passenger dead at the scene, due to the extent of their injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the Lexus suffered moderate injuries in the crash.

The Toyota driver fled the scene of the accident but later surrendered to the Lodi police station. Officers took him into custody and arrested on DUI charges related to the crash.

At this time, authorities have not released to the identity of the deceased victim. However, further investigation of this accident is still ongoing.
