Victim Pronounced Dead after 2-Car Collision near 2nd Avenue

VISALIA, CA (March 1, 2022) – Monday night, one person died and four others sustained injuries in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 198.

The collision happened around 6:45 p.m., on Highway 198 near 2nd Avenue. Dispatchers responded to the scene shortly after.

According to California Highway Patrol, a Honda driver was heading south on 2nd Avenue when he tried to turn in front of an oncoming eastbound Mercedes on the highway.

However, the Mercedes driver did not have time to stop and collided with the right side of the Honda.

The impact caused fatal injuries to the 20-year-old passenger. Although, authorities withheld the deceased victim’s name pending notification of next of kin.

Meanwhile, medics took the driver and two other passengers in the Honda to Kaweah Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries.

In addition, an unidentified woman in the Mercedes suffered minor injuries.

At this time, an active investigation remains ongoing.
