Multi-Vehicle Crash on 5 Freeway Left 1 Fatality, Injured at Least 6 Others

LOS ANGELES, CA (January 24, 2022) – Friday morning, one person died and six others sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on 5 Freeway.

The incident happened around 8:07 a.m., along the 5 Freeway near Stadium Way and the 110 Freeway.

Officers reported that a 2002 Toyota Matrix heading southbound on the freeway lost control and collided with at least 8 other cars.

A big-rig behind the Toyota attempted to avoid colliding with it, but instead crushed the Toyota between itself and a second big-rig.

Officers responded and located one person dead at the scene, and six more with unspecified injuries. Medics then took three of them to nearby hospital for treatment, while the remaining three declined hospitalization.

Authorities described the victims sent to the hospital as a 67-year-old woman, a 29-year-old woman, and an 11-year-old girl.

CHP did not release any additional information at this time. However, the cause of the multi-vehicle crash on 5 Freeway and factors involved remain under investigation.
