[Update at 10:38 p.m.]: Deputy Lillian Peck tells us it was a deputy-involved shooting in the 900 block of Palm Avenue.

“A deputy-involved shooting did occur about an hour ago,” she said. “It was a hit shooting [meaning a suspect or suspects were struck by gunfire]. No deputies were injured.”

She didn't have condition details for anyone who was struck.

[Added at 10:58 p.m.]: That same address was the site of a fatal stabbing last month in which the victim's boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of murder.

[Added at 11:30 p.m.]: Deputy Peck said homicide detectives were rolling to the scene. A sheriff's homicide official said they hadn't arrived yet.

Peck said that homicide detectives are normally dispatched to deputy-involved shootings in which someone was struck by gunfire.

[Update at 12:33 p.m. Tuesday]: The Sheriff's Department today says deputies were responding to a “man-with-a-knife” call at an apartment at the address when two men “aggressed” the cops and at least one of the deputies opened fire.

Inside the apartment deputies found two other men fighting, according to a sheriff's statement. Those two were detained. All four were hospitalized:

A 24-year-old who was shot was pronounced dead at a hospital, sheriff's officials said. The other three  “sustained non-life-threatening stab wounds,” according to a statement. They were said to be stable.

Deputies say they found a “large knife” at the scene.
