One male was killed and two others were critically wounded in a morning shooting in Reynier Village, a South Robertson-area neighborhood on L.A.'s Westside, authorities said.

The attack took place in a neighborhood known for a Latino gang called Barrio West Side Locos Halm Avenue, or just Halm, police confirmed to the Weekly. Two suspects and three victims were all described as Latino, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Jack Richter.

The violence prompted officials to temporarily lock-down nearby Hamilton High School until 10:40 a.m., said Officer Wendy Reyes.

Officers from the West Los Angeles Division of the LAPD were first called the area, to the 3100 block of Helms Avenue, at 9:07 a.m., Richter said. Someone reported that a gunman was chasing someone, he said.

“Turns out two individuals were chasing three individuals, and three people were shot,” Richter said.

The Los Angeles Fire Department received a shooting call at 9:03 a.m., said spokeswoman Katherine Main. Paramedics were dispatched to the 8900 block of West Helms Place, she said. A second call, to 3100 Helms Avenue, came in at 9:21 a.m., she said.

Three people were transported in critical condition to nearby medical facilities, Main said.

One of the three subsequently died at a hospital today, Reyes told us.

Police cordoned off the area, and three crime scenes were established because of the foot chase, but no suspects had been collared, police said.

The neighborhood has had its issues with gang violence in the past. It's also home to an African American set called the Playboy Gangsta Crips.
