41-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Accident near Portero Road

MOSS LANDING, CA (April 23, 2024) Guadalupe Chavez died Sunday evening, and Jose Rosas was involved in a pedestrian crash on Highway 1.
The incident occurred shortly before 11:00 p.m. on April 14th, in the southbound lanes of the freeway just south of Portero Road. According to investigators, 41-year-old Chavez from Castroville was walking near the intersection when she was struck by a blue 2012 Hyundai driven by 42-year-old Rosas. The impact propelled her onto the southbound lanes, resulting in fatal injuries. Chavez was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics. Emergency crews temporarily closed off the surrounding area for clearing operations. Following initial assessments, Rosas was not detained by officers. California Highway Patrol Officials urge anyone who witnessed the pedestrian crash on Highway 1 to contact them at 83-1770-8000. Further details will be provided as they become available.
