53-Year-Old Professor Pronounced Dead after Big-Rig Accident near County Road 417

GRIMES COUNTY, TX (April 16, 2024) Qinglei Li died Monday morning after a head-on semi-truck crash on eastbound Highway 105. Police officers responded to the scene around 9:00 a.m., near County Road 417 on April 1st. Li was behind the wheel of a 2016 Nissan Rogue when, for reasons currently under investigation, their vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic. This led to a head-on collision with a 2001 Kenworth 18-wheeler semi-truck traveling eastbound. Additionally, Li’s vehicle was struck by another car, a 2024 Hyundai Palisade. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Li, aged 53, was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of both the truck and the Hyundai suffered minor injuries and were taken to CHI St. Joseph Hospital – College Station and CHI St. Joseph Regional Hospital for treatment. Authorities have not provided further details, and an active investigation is ongoing.
