Hatsune Miku, the wildly popular character from the Vocaloid family of synthetic voice programs, will appear in concert Los Angeles on July 2 at Nokia Theatre in connection with this year's Anime Expo, according to the Miku-Fes 2011 website. Much like her sold-out show in Tokyo (see the above video), a 3D rendition of the fictional singer will perform. SEGA will be providing the visuals.

Since her creation in 2007, Hatsune Miku has become a viral success. Fan-made songs and videos first that grew popular via Japanese video portal Nico Nico Douga eventually made their way to YouTube. She has since become a fixture at anime conventions in the United States, with panels dedicated to her and Miku cosplayers roaming around hotels and convention centers. Anime Expo, which takes place at the Los Angeles Convention Center Fourth of July weekend, is one of the best known anime convention in the country.

Yesterday, we wrote about Stephanie Yanez and Polo, two local performers who took the challenge of combining a human voice with a synthetic one. Read more in "Human Singer Stephanie Yanez Duets with Virtual Pop Star Hatsune Miku."
