Nathaniel D. Hale, the artist better known as Nate Dogg, passed away Tuesday. As reported by Long Beach's Press-Telegram, the cause of death is not known. He was 41 years old.

The singer had suffered two strokes, in 2007 and 2008, and had been undergoing physical therapy.

Soon after the news broke, Daz Dillinger, member of Tha Dogg Pound and longtime Nate Dogg collaborator, tweeted:

Local radio station KDAY (93.5) immediately began a night-long tribute to the highly influential West Coast legend, tweeting, "Tune In and/or call us with your condolences and favorite Nate Dogg song at 323-520-5329."

Nate Dogg made his debut on Dr. Dre's seminal 1992 album, The Chronic. After signing with Death Row Records in 1993, he featured on his first hit single a year later, Warren G's "Regulate." His voice and delivery made him one of the most sought-after and recognizable singers in hip hop, and he appeared on over 40 chart singles. He also was nominated for four Grammys.

Rest in peace to one of the greatest.

Updates to follow as more details become available.
