A Perfect Circle's debut album Mer de Noms is a tick past its 10th birthday, but it has lost little of its sheen.

The combination of Maynard James Keenan's aching vocals and Billy Howerdel's guitar veneer gave the quintet an immediate identity outside of its players' other projects, and after APC's formidable debut, the band went on to make two more albums, Thirteenth Step and eMOTIVe, before going on hiatus six years ago.

Now Keenan (the man behind Tool, Puscifer and a burgeoning winemaking empire in Arizona) and Howerdel (Ashes Divide) have pressed pause on their other enterprises long enough to take A Perfect Circle on a five-city, 14-date tour. In almost every locale, the quintet will devote a show to playing an album in its entirety.

Reports from APC's tour-opening three-night stand in Arizona were glowing -- Keenan, Howerdel and mates James Iha, Matt McJunkins and Josh Freese followed Mer de Noms with a merger of the Cure's "Lovesong" and Ozzy Osbourne's "Diary of a Madman" before ending with David Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes" and John Lennon's "Imagine."

The first of A Perfect Circle's three nights in L.A. goes off tonight at the Avalon.

Elsewhere: Florence and the Machine close out a three-night stand at the Wiltern, supported by Hanni El Khatib and Grouplove -- and later, Hanni El Khatib plays It's a School Night at Bardot, where there a Florence and the Machine DJ set. ... Residencies continue for Chasing Kings (Silverlake Lounge, with the Americans and Moses Campbell), Dirt Dress (Spaceland, with Summer Twins) and the Black Apples (the Echo, with Tijuana Panthers and Future Ghost).

Also: Street Sweeper Social Club at the Roxy; Quadron at the Hotel Cafe; Mark Ballas at the Mint; Phil Alvin at the Redwood Bar; and Marquee Cody Wood at the Viper Room.
